A Running Milestone

*Warning:  the below post includes a picture of a bleeding body part.  If you are squeamish, seriously just suck it up.

In preparation of our 6 mile race in January, Jeff and I had a 4.5 mile run scheduled for yesterday-this is a half mile further than I’ve ever gone.  We sucked it up (he’s getting over a cold and I’m just lazy) and headed out.  My goal for the run was to go slow and steady.

The first half of the run was just okay.  My legs felt heavy but for once, my asthma was like Lindsey Lohan on a community service day…no where to be found.

When we hit the two mile mark, I mentally got in the game.  As always the second half of the run is mentally easier.  Until I started feeling a tiny prick TWSS poking TWSS pain on my middle toe on the right foot.  I tried to change my gait but it didn’t work.

At 3.5 miles I told Jeff I had to stop.  At first he misinterpreted me and started to shout encouragements – “come on babe, you got this”.  I yelled no, I need to stop because something is up with my foot.

I parked myself on some poor person’s curb, took off my shoe, took off my sock and saw this.

Well that would be blood.  On my good Lululemon sock.  And then the culprit.

Apparently I got a blister on our run and then it popped and then began to bleed.  And I had a mile to go.  With no other choice, I jammed my sock in between my bleeding toe and kept running.

Ran with a bleeding blister – check.

4.5 miles done in 53:10 – an 11:48 pace and a new PDR.

And the best part, my asthma NEVER acted up.  It felt awesome to be able to breath the entire run without feeling like I was carrying an elephant on my chest.

Cooking up Santa’s bribe

Every year, Jeff’s family picks a weekend in December to make Christmas cookies.  They take turns hosting and this year it was at Jeff’s Aunt Holly’s.

We got there and Railynn was just finishing up cutting out the sugar cookies.  They had made over 100 sugar cookies, which meant we needed to start decorating.

They laid out all the tubs of frosting-they make their frosting homemade-and put out all the sprinkles to use.

There were so many cookies that needed decorating, Jeff and I barely put a dent in the pile.

We headed home and got in a run (more on that later) and now, after a late nap and early dinner, I’m sneezing and feeling run down.  I’m HOPING it’s allergies and the run and not the other possibility (getting sick).  Maybe a 9 pm bedtime is in my future.

Only 5 more days of work before vacation!!

Christmas Countdown

Yesterday Brooklyn and Kalea came over for a bit and were excited to see our Christmas decorations.  They ran around the house looking at everything and then Brooklyn asked where was my “house that has chocolate behind the doors” was.

Poor Brooklyn, sorry no advent calendar here.  But we did make paper chains.  The girls decorated their strips and we taped them all together.

I asked the girls to pose but of course Kalea did not want to cooperate.  She threw her chain down and walked away.  DRAMA QUEEN.

So Brooky complied and held up both chains.

Holiday Work Party

Last night was my work’s holiday party.  The event was completely put on by employee’s donations and was a nice evening out.  The party was at the Diamond Bar Golf Course and was nicely decorated with centerpieces and a lot of twinkle lights.

I wanted to do a group shot of my team, but it didn’t work out.  Here are a lot of smaller shots, with most of my team.

We had a plated dinner of chicken and mashed potatoes with a taste of cake and cheesecake for dessert.  After dinner there was a raffle and I won a $25 Best Buy gift card.  We ended up leaving around 10:30pm and after drinking 3 glasses of wine, I was tired!

Only 22 days until Christmas.

Our Laundromat

Since our washer went kaput, I had to take my clothes down to Shannon’s for a mid-week wash.  Since she was sick and her apartment was full of germs, I stopped by the baby nieces to hang out while my clothes washed.

The girls posed for some cute pictures, while Noelle snuck Hailey’s left over potatoes.

Crystal had made some pumpkin bread and gave me a piece for dessert.  Now I’m off to bed.  Good night!!
