Ouch

So I've been running on my old running shoes from circa 2003. They are pretty worn down but I figured that I would only be running in them until September and would buy new ones after the 5k. That was my idea until this week. I'd been getting regular shin splints for the last two weeks but this week, my knees are screaming at me. Going to the Snail's Pace on Saturday! Hopefully I'll find a pair that I and my knees love. :)

Week 2

This is the end of week 2 for our 5k training. Keep your laughs to yourself, yes I have to "train" for a 5k. :) I did my second run by myself this morning and it wasn't so bad. I prefer running in the morning, before the sun has heated up the pavement and it's 80 degrees out. Even if the coyotes are still roaming around at 8:30am. I'm running/walking about a 15.18 mile which is slooow but everyone has to start somewhere right?

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th of July everyone! Our plan for today is to go down to Aunt Bernice's and Uncle Tim's for a BBQ and then to my dad's for fireworks once it's dark.

The pictures below are actually from the day before but for some reason I have no pics...I think Shannon took them all. The last pic is hilarious even if it is blurry. At that point, Kalea had decided she had enough of taking pictures. Can you just imagine the meltdown that ensued after?

Run Dione Run!

I've been looking into races for awhile and Jeff and I decided to do a 5k in September. It's the Megan Savage Memorial Run For a Cure (go to meganswings.org for more info.) It's in Upland and we found a whole training guide to go from the "couch to 5k" although I have a sneaky suspicion that Jeff is going to make the workouts harder than the guide. Our ultimate goal is to do the Disney Half Marathon next year. We'll see though...

DPA Cruise

Last year I won our DPA trip to the Bahamas. They ended up canceling it but no worries...I won again for 2009! This time it was a cruise off of Miami that stopped at Key West and Coco Cay (RC's private island). Jeff and I flew out to Miami on Sunday and stayed at the Hilton Miami Airport hotel. Our trip started off rocky with a really bad buffet but got better the next day.

Day 1
We boarded the cruise at 11am on Monday. We immediately hit the buffet for lunch (yum!) and then went to our room to drop off our luggage and change. We met Tracy and her hubby Bon at the pool later that night for happy hour (on the company).

Day 2
We docked at Key West and Jeff and I had booked a "Taste of Key West" tour. It was a walking tour that sampled some of the local food. We stopped at a pepper place first, which was not ideal as it was so hot and humid. Jeff tried a really hot sauce that made him sweat like he just stepped out of the shower. Our next stop was a tiny shack like place where we sampled conch chowder and Key West shrimp. Our last stop was a key lime shop that had everything key lime. Key lime soap, key lime cookies, key lime jelly beans. We sampled all their treats and their specialty, frozen key lime pie-YUM. Later that night, Jeff and I went back out and had some beers with some Allstaters at Sloppy Joe's, a bar on key west.

Day 3
This was our day at the sea. I dread these days cause I always feel as though there is nothing to do... However, this time was different. We hung out at the pool early in the afternoon and snacked on their lunch pool buffet. Then rested and ended up watching this Love & Marriage game show with some people from Allstate.

Day 4
Our last day. This was the day at Coco Cay-Royal Caribbean's private owned island. After our honeymoon Robinson Curusoe tour where we were stuck on a really deserted island, I was very weary! I kept saying it's going to be like last time! This time though, it was completely different and probably my favorite day of the trip. We booked a kayak tour and it was a really big upper arm workout. It went to an island right off Coco Cay where we looked at sand dollars and sea cucumbers. After that we ate a buffet on the island (way better than last year's buffet) and then layed out by the beach (in shade!) When we got back to the boat, we played some bingo and then watched the Laker game.
