A Trip Worthy of a Parking Pass

Jeff and I have been saving our complimentary Disneyland parking pass for just the right trip.  They are worth $15 so we wanted to go on a day to get our free $$$ worth.

We decided an all day trip would be worth using one of our coveted passes and what’s not the best day to go but a work day.

We took the random Thursday off of work (unfortunately so did a ton of other people to visit during their spring break) and made it in the park only 1 hour after opening.

We headed straight to Space Mountain after walking through the gates.  The sign said a 40 minute wait, and since the weather was nice, we decided to wait in line.  We got in line and it was a lot shorter than 40 minutes!  Once we were off, we made our way over to CA.

We first went to Soarin and there was already a 30 minute way.  We grabbed fast passes and them hiked over to Toy Story Midway Mania.  We made it there by 10:13 am and the line was already 60-70 minutes long.  What the heck?

We decided not to wait and instead went on a few more CA rides, Screamin and Tower of Terror and then finished our day at Disneyland.

We played “old” and took the Disney Railroad around the entire park.  We had just finished lunch and needed to let our food settle.  LOL.

By 1:00 pm the sun had come out and started luring people into the park.  It was getting CROWDED and we were getting tired.  We grabbed some sweets and then head out of the park.  It was a great day and definitely worthy of using a parking pass.  Smile

Suite 106 Cupcakery

One of my favorite places to go to in San Francisco is Kara’s Cupcakes.  Their cupcakes are so light and delicious I always go more than once.

Since coming back from our trip in December, we decided we were going to find a delicious cupcake shop closer to us.

We’ve had some wins and some misses (to protect the innocent, we won’t mention the misses.)

Today though, was another win.  Jeff and the good idea of googling to find other local Cupcake War winner and found:  Suite 106 Cupcakery.

We made the trip out to VG, had dinner and then went on search for this winning cupcake store.  At first we thought it would be it’s own storefront.  Quickly we realized it was actually inside the food court.  What?  A cupcake store inside a hot, humid food court?

They had a limited supply and offered up a sample of their coconut cupcake.  After tasting it, seeing their “store” I was immediately on alert.  I had a feeling these were not going to be good.

But them Jeff reminded me, hey they won Cupcake Wars!  They have to be good.

So we bought three:  Pumpkin Pie, Red Velvet (the winning cupcake) and Peanut Butter & Jelly.

What was that?  You only see two?  Yeah, I ate the PB&J cupcake before taking a picture.  Here is the wrapper.

IMG_9049

The PB&J was the BEST cupcake I’ve had.  The cake was airy and moist and the peanut butter frosting was light and sweet.  It had a raspberry filling on the inside that added just the right amount of tartness to perfectly balance the sweet.

(I also just had a taste of Jeff’s Pumpkin Pie – soooo good.)

We are definitely going back there soon.

PS – Danny they have a cupcake called Pancakes & BACON.

The Cactus That Keeps On Giving

Approximately 24 hours later, Jeff’s arm looks like it had a run in with the chicken pox.

IMG_9039IMG_9040IMG_9041

Every little red spot is a thorn pulled out or a thorn still stuck in him.  He’s been pulling them out all day long.  Even though he is still walking around with cacti parts stuck in him, he joined me for a 3 mile run this morning and made some homemade gumbo.  One little cactus won’t sideline him!

We decided to make it a short work week and head to Disneyland on Thursday.  We are going to do an all day thing before our black out days and the summer vacations start happening.  It will probably still be packed due to spring breaks but you win some, lose some.  It will still be nicer than sitting in an office under fluorescent lights OR rolling around with a cactus.

Winking smile

Fun x4

Update:  Jeff is doing okay.  He’s pulled a few more thorns out of his arm and leg.  His only complaint this morning is he’s beginning to really feel the large ones stuck in his arm and they are beginning to hurt.  We’re going to get the thoroughly sanitized (not) tweezers and needle and go to work later.

Yesterday afternoon, C & C went to an engagement party and dropped off the kiddies at our house.  Crystal also dropped off some home made chicken enchiladas that were sooooo good!

I pulled out some of the toys they normally played with so they had easy access.

It should be noted that Noelle is so mobile now!  She crawls very quickly and pulls herself up quite a bit!

While Noellie was playing with the kitchen, Hailey turned around and noticed a small cabinet behind her.  She opened it and was able to fit her entire upper half of her body into the cabinet.  She was reaching for a roll of toilet paper at the very back.  She got it, threw it on the floor, where Noelle promptly put it in her mouth.

Shortly after, the older nieces arrived to play with their cousins.  (It was about now that Jeff also decided to head to the pharmacy for some supplies to take care of his arm.  Apparently they have some kind of ointment that draws out thorns/splinters-he was unable to find any though.)

Want to know what a room looks like when there are 4 little girls each playing their own thing?

IMG_9033

It actually wasn’t too bad.  They did a pretty good job of cleaning up as they went.  I even made sure B & K did the final clean before they left for the evening.

At one point Hailey raced into our bedroom and I sent Danny to bring her back out.  By the time he made it off the couch and to the door, Hailey had completely hidden herself in our pillows.

I missed the picture but caught one of her coming out of her hiding spot.

It was a fun niecie day!

Today we had plans on going to Disneyland but have thought twice about it because of Jeff’s arm.  Instead we are going to do a 3 mile run and then clean house.  Much more fun…NOT.

Cactus 1 Jeff 0

It’s always Jeff.

Jeff mountain bikes regularly.  He’s pretty experienced and is always ready to push the limits.  Almost to a fault…especially when the limits are his almost 40 year old body.

Jeff gets his fair share of bruises and scratches from riding and has only been significantly hurt one time.  He fell off the side of the trail into a 6+ foot ditch.  Yeah, it was pretty bad.  He cracked his helmet, tweaked his bike and had a bruise on the side of his hip about the size of a cantaloupe.

He toughed it out and the injuries since have been pretty typical.

Until today.

Jeff and his buddies obviously pushed themselves on today’s trail.  It wasn’t until he was 100 feet away from the exit that Jeff took a tumble.

Into a cactus.

Before he came home, he had plucked most of the quills?? out of his arm and leg.  Unfortunately he did not take a “before” picture.  What?  We got a blog here, of course it was one of the first things that popped into my head.

Don’t worry, we definitely got “after” pictures.  Winking smile

IMG_9003IMG_9004IMG_9005IMG_9006

He says if he runs his hand up his arm he can still feel a bunch of tiny quills stuck in his arm.  He had an especially thick one stuck is his thumb.  When I say stuck, the entire then was under the surface of his skin.  We put it next to a penny for reference.

What may suck the most are the tiny translucent ones that look like Jeff’s blond hair.

Poor Jeff (and poor me just a little…he’s going to be grumpy tonight.)
