Food Truck Thursdays

Ever since I tried the epic falafel wrap back at the LA County Fair, I’ve been following Gourmet Genie on Twitter.  When I saw them tweet that they would be at Food Truck Thursdays last week at the Fairplex, I suggested we hit the road for dinner.  Thankfully Jeff agreed.

The event starts at 5:30pm and we got there around 5:45pm.  We went straight to the Genie truck and ordered 2 falafels.

Oh so good.  We had a couple of extra bucks and a sweet tooth that needed to be satisfied so we went to the Crepe truck before leaving.  They offered a free scoop of ice cream if you checked in on Yelp and as you can see below, CHECK!

By the time we were leaving, it was getting crowded.  We’ll have to keep an eye on who will be there each Thursday just in case we need another dinner idea!!

A Basic Meal - 26 Weeks

Lately my appetite is getting bigger and my taste for what sounds good is finally returning back to semi normal.  Here is a a good example of what I’m eating now.

Meat is not a big favorite of mine so only one rib for lunch.  I love salad but it has to be covered in croutons.  And watermelon…a huge CRAVING that Jeff was able to satisfy this weekend.  Hence the 3 slices in one meal.

What else is going on:

  • Total weight gained – 8 lbs
  • The baby is moving a TON!  Especially in the mornings before I eat something.  It’s like she’s hungry and telling me to hurry up and eat something.
  • We ordered our car seat and stroller through my work and got a 30% discount!
  • Friday is my glucose test, I’m really not looking forward to the orange drink.
  • The baby shower date is set and the location has been reserved.

Hollywood 10k

Oh, yeah, Hollywood!!

IMG_0885

Awhile back a few of Jeff’s co-workers suggested they sign up for the Hollywood 10k.  Since Jeff was just off his half marathon high, he signed himself up.

When we began to start looking at the logistics (packet pick up, parking, etc) it was apparent it was going to be an early morning.

The race started at 6:00am and was approx 40 mins away.  It wouldn’t have been such a big deal but they warned that parking in Hollywood would be bad so plan to get there early…way early.  I went to Twitter to look for any last year recaps and only heard bad news.  Parking was horrible, the event ran out of water and had a horrible hill on the course.

To be honest, I tried my best to talk Jeff out of it…but he won and we set our alarm to 3:45am.  When the alarm went off, we got up pretty quickly and then hit the road around 4:30am.  We made one stop at the ATM for cash for parking and then hit the road.

We got to Hollywood around 5:15am and was turned away from the first lot but found parking at the second lot.  We paid our $15 and parked pretty close to the finish line.  As we were walking towards Hollywood Blvd we saw some people leaving a club.  So crazy!

I parked myself on a bench once we hit the road and Jeff made the approximate 1 mile walk towards the start.  I’m pretty sure the race started on time, because around 6:05am we saw the lead runners begin to make their way past us.

About 10 minutes later, I saw Jeff run by.  I was so worried about waving to him that I forgot to take a picture!  He threw me his hat and kept on running.

One pretty cool thing about the race was there were a lot of people running in costume.  Superman, Wonderwoman, Marilyn Monroe – really impressed!

As the last walkers made it by us, I crossed the street and waited at the finish line for Jeff.  Right on the time I expected to see him, he turned the corner and ran it in!

He ended up finishing just over one hour, maintaining a 9:42 pace! Pretty good since I think the last time he ran was last weekend.  He made his way back to me right after crossing.

He said that the race was actually pretty good.  They got rid of the crazy hill and had an abundance of water and lots of volunteers.  The downside – the 10kers and 5kers finish in the same chute.  So by the time the more speedy 10kers are finishing, they are behind the 5k walkers.  There is nothing more frustrating than having to slow down your pace when you are trying to sprint to the finish line.

We headed back to the IE after the race and celebrated with some Flo’s.  Perfect way to start off a Saturday morning.  Smile

Easter Sunday

Since we ended up staying in SF on Sunday, we missed out on the So Cal family festivities.  Here are the pictures I got from Shannon & Crystal.

Babymoon: SF Edition

Thursday morning we woke up early, packed up the car and hit the road for San Francisco.  Since we had cut the trip north in half, we only had a 3 hour trip in front of us…so nice!!

As soon as we arrived we decided to try a new to us restaurant, the Presidio Social Club.

At first the menu didn’t look that appetizing and I ended up settling for the grilled cheese and tomato soup.  Luckily it was the BEST tomato soup ever and I declared this was a must visit every time we go to SF.  Later that night, we celebrated my birthday with some cake.

We kept it low key while we were in SF.  Lots of walking to look for baby stuff and niecie stuff.  While we were there we popped into Macys and they were having a huge flower show.  They had a ton of gorgeous displays inside the store.

We had a couple of days of dreary weather while we were there and one night the fog started to roll in really early.  You couldn’t even see the the top of the hill from my mom’s patio.

Our last day up there, we made some homemade pizza and it was so good I had to snap a picture.

We ended up staying until Monday and hit the road around 10am.  The trip back had me worried since it was going to be a long one without any breaks.  I ended up getting super uncomfortable about 5 hours in and could not wait to just get out of the car.

It was a fun babymoon…now we just have 15 more weeks until Kenzie makes her debut!!
