Catching Up-35 Weeks

This is a week late, but the last week has been crazy! I originally took the week off to relax at home, hang out with the nieces and get ready to bring Kenzie home. Unfortunately my week did not go as planned. I relaxed Monday and Tuesday but woke up Wednesday sick. The first (and hopefully only) cold of my pregnancy. The bummer is it really hit me hard and I was down for the count the rest of the week.

To top it off, on Friday we had a minor “we need to go to the hospital” moment. I thought my water had broken (it had not) so I made Jeff rush me to the hospital. By the time we got there, I had no other symptoms and started to feel a bit silly. Yet the staff kept reassuring me it was better safe than sorry so we made our way to observation. I was hooked up to monitor Kenzie’s heart and any contractions and was left alone for about a half hour. While Jeff was getting some water, a nurse came in and did an exam confirming I was not at all dilated and Kenz was indeed not making a grand entrance 6 weeks early.

By this time Jeff had come back and the nurse did a quick sonogram to confirm how much fluid was still left for Kenz, and all was good. Until she looked at the contraction print out. She looked at me and asked if I had any pain since I was having a contraction at that moment. I said no to which she responded that I was having irregular contractions this whole time. Oops!

I was monitored for another hour and finally released with strict instructions to return should I have more than 6 contractions in an hour. (Thankfully they are random and the most I’ve had is 3 in one hour since then).

I felt a little silly when it was all said and done, especially since the women on either side of me were in active labor. One woman came in dilated 8 cm! But at least we got our “practice” run out of the way and are ready for the real deal.

Only 5 more weeks to go!!

Showering Mackenzie

Someone had a baby shower this weekend!

Shannon and Crystal threw Mac and I a wonderful baby shower!  The theme was showered with love and we both certainly felt that way!  (Well I did anyway…I think Mac just felt well fed).

The tables were set up with some very summery floral centerpieces that Shasha’s co-worker made for us and had plates of chocolate covered strawberries for guests to snack on.

Each place setting had the made to order cupcakes and decorated water bottles.  Shannon originally had another idea that fell through but this back up plan was way cuter!  I loved the pink saftey pins and ‘it’s a girl’ charms.  I was sad when I drank the last bottle.

The food table had the pink parasols in vases next to some super cute rain boots.  Too bad they were already taken or I would have snagged them for Kenzie to use in 3-4 years.  Winking smile

The cake was from a bakery that my Aunt B has used for years!  They made her wedding cake like 20+ years ago.  It was a white cake with pineapple cream filling, so good!!

The rest of the food was ordered from Corner Bakery and parts made/contributed from Crystal and Mac’s grandma Libby.

On the present table, was a diaper cake that Crystal made.  It was her first one and she did such a cute job!  I almost don’t want to take it apart, although I’m sure one dirty diaper change in the middle of the night *might* change my mind.  Our neighbor Julie also made one as part of her gift.  She’s super crafty and does this as a small side business.

After we ate, we played a few games, cut the cake and then opened presents.

And me with my aunt and cousins.  We were laughing at this picture because Ashley looks like a glamazon towering over us!

It was such a special shower and I had a great time.  Thank you Shannon and Crystal for your hard work and thank you everyone for coming and making it extra special.  34 weeks down and 6 more to go!!

Now…who is coming over to wash and put everything away.  Seriously…it’s all waiting for someone to help!  Winking smile

A Low Key Memorial Day

Last weekend we had family over for a low key Memorial Day.  C&C arrived early to get some pool time in before we had lunch.

Once lunch was ready, we headed inside and I handed my camera over to the girls to take some pictures.  Below were either from Hailey or Noelle.  There were a lot of outtakes!

The Rusty Pelican

Last Thursday we had some home office guests visiting at work.  My boss decided it would be nice to treat the midwesterners to a Newport Beach dinner.  After work, we drove down to Newport Beach to have dinner at the Rusty Pelican.

I had never been but Jeff said it was really good.  We made reservations and got there early enough to be able to sit out on the patio with a view of the Marina.

I loved that they offered complimentary blankets while on the patio.  It got chilly once the sun started to set.  I had the crab bisque and crab cakes with green beans.  I don’t know why I didn’t take a picture but it was pretty good!

I can’t wait to go back with Jeff and next time, enjoy a glass of wine with my meal.

A little bit of company

This past Saturday I had some company.

2013-05-25_09-30-43_4012013-05-25_09-31-01_99

C&C had to help Crystal’s sister move so the little nieces joined me for the day.  We hung out inside until it warmed up a bit and then hit the nearby tot lot to burn off all the excess sugar I gave the girls.  Winking smile

At one point Noelle really want to swing but since Hailey claimed the big girl swing, that meant she needed to be lifted into the kid swing.  She already knew I couldn’t lift her so we had to do some creative climbing to get her in.  She was a trooper!

After the swings I moved to a shaded part of the jungle gym and caught the girls running across the bridge and going up and down the stairs.

They each took a rest break, not sure what they are both looking at.

At one point Hailey wanted to run across the bridge holding her sister’s hand.  Love that they are BFFs!!

Thanks for hanging out with me Hailey & Noelle!!
